Step 2: Funeral Service

If you wish to have a religious service then contact your local church or place of worship and ask if a worshipper can carry out the service

Home Introduction Steps 1 to 5 Step 2: Funeral Service

As you will be paying the church office direct, and not through the undertaker you will therefore be saving money.

You can also use the Salvation Army who normally ask for a donation. Personally speaking, I found this service excellent. UK contact details are listed under To book a Salvation Army officer.

Non-Religious Services

However, if you wanted a service which is not a religious one, then you could also use a Humanist. Contact details for a Humanist throughout the UK are also listed under To book a Humanist. Humanists can also normally offer a religious act such as a hymn or music of praise, provided there was not an act of worship.

Celebrants

Celebrants who are similar to a Humanist can offer religious acts into the service. Contact details for a Celebrant throughout the UK are also listed under To book a Celebrant.

By booking a Salvation Army officer, Humanist, or Celebrant directly, then you are again saving funeral expenses, and working towards an affordable funeral. For those who may be terminally ill, you will often find that home visits are available from one of the above service providers.
